Former National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof. Ukachukwu Awuzie, has called on Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and Works Minister Dave Umahi to stop their criticisms of Peter Obi.
Speaking with journalists in Owerri, Imo State, Awuzie also urged Igbo leaders and the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo to intervene in the ongoing political exchanges involving the three figures.
Awuzie said Soludo and Umahi should concentrate on their respective public responsibilities rather than focusing on Obi’s record as a former Anambra State governor.
He questioned the silence of some South-East leaders and called on them to provide leadership by addressing the disagreements among prominent politicians from the region.
The former ASUU president also defended Obi against attempts to discredit his political record, saying such efforts would not change the way he is viewed by his supporters.
Awuzie described Obi as a politician he believes Nigeria needs and said he considers him a model of leadership.
He further dismissed the possibility of criticisms from President Bola Tinubu and his supporters damaging Obi’s reputation, while expressing his view that Obi enjoys support beyond the South-East.
His comments come as political activities and exchanges continue to intensify ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with politicians and their supporters increasingly debating the records and ambitions of major political figures.
