Gunmen have abducted two passengers after reportedly blocking the Bokkos–Barkin Ladi Road in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 8:40 p.m. on Friday, according to a report by counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama.
The report said troops of Sector 4, Operation Enduring Peace, responded to a distress call after the attack was reported along the highway.
Upon arriving at the area, the troops reportedly discovered that the assailants had blocked the road and intercepted a vehicle driven by Kollog Dakwan.
The gunmen allegedly abducted two passengers from the vehicle before fleeing into the surrounding bush.
Security forces subsequently launched a rescue operation into the area in an attempt to locate the victims and track down the attackers.
However, the initial operation reportedly yielded no contact with the suspected kidnappers.
Security forces are continuing efforts to locate the abducted passengers and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
Patrols have also been intensified along the Bokkos–Barkin Ladi route and surrounding communities to prevent further attacks and improve the security of road users.
The security operation is also expected to involve collaboration with local communities, with security personnel seeking information that could help identify the kidnappers, locate the victims and secure their safe rescue.
The latest incident has renewed security concerns along the highway, particularly for commuters and residents travelling through the area at night.
