All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the Osun State election, Bola Oyebamiji, has accepted the outcome of the poll and congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke, two weeks after the election.
Adeleke, who contested under the Accord platform, was declared the winner of the August 15 governorship election.
In a statement on Saturday, Oyebamiji thanked APC members and supporters for their sacrifices, resilience, prayers and confidence throughout the campaign.
He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu, former Osun governor Bisi Akande, and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola for their guidance and support during the election.
While accepting the result and congratulating Adeleke, Oyebamiji said the violence recorded during the election must not be ignored.
“While we accept the outcome of the election and congratulate the winner, we cannot forget the painful incidents of violence and the lives that were lost.”
The APC candidate mourned victims of political violence and expressed solidarity with their families.
He called on relevant security agencies to thoroughly investigate the incidents and ensure that anyone found responsible is brought to justice.
Oyebamiji stressed that political contests should never result in the loss of lives, saying no election should cost any Nigerian their life.
Despite the election result, he said his commitment to Osun State remained firm and assured supporters that legitimate concerns would continue to be pursued through lawful and constitutional channels.
With attention now shifting towards the 2027 general election, Oyebamiji urged APC members and supporters to put the election behind them, close ranks and strengthen the party’s structures.
He said the party’s immediate priority should be mobilising support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and ensuring the success of APC candidates in Osun State.
Adeleke had earlier appealed to Oyebamiji and other candidates to put their differences aside and support his administration following his re-election.
The governor described the election as a contest with “no victor, no vanquished” and had urged Oyebamiji to congratulate him.
Oyebamiji’s latest statement now formally acknowledges the election outcome while maintaining that any legitimate complaints arising from the process can still be addressed through constitutional means.
