Troops of Operation Enduring Peace, under Operation Hard Knock, have foiled two separate attempts by armed men to attack or infiltrate Manja community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to security sources cited by Zagazola Makama, troops responded on Saturday to reports of armed herders moving around the community.
The swift intervention reportedly forced the armed men, who were allegedly preparing to attack the village, to retreat into nearby bushes with their cattle.
Later the same day, troops received another report of an attempted infiltration into Manja and immediately launched a pursuit operation against the suspected attackers and their cattle.
Security personnel subsequently intensified patrols and clearance operations around the community to prevent further attempts and protect residents.
The latest development comes days after troops reportedly stopped another attempted attack on Manja following violence in neighbouring communities.
On August 16, several residents, reportedly Fulani, were killed in Jwak Maitumbi community, while about 45 residential shelters and large quantities of crops were destroyed.
Less than 48 hours later, suspected Fulani militia reportedly attacked Bin-Per community in Kombun district of Mangu, killing at least 23 people, including women and children, in what was described as a possible reprisal.
Security sources said operations are continuing to maintain pressure on the suspected attackers and safeguard Manja and surrounding communities.
