Nigerian TikToker Mirabel, who previously claimed she was raped in her residence, has returned to social media after spending months away from the platform.
Mirabel returned on Saturday after completing a rehabilitation programme in Ogun State. She had been released into the care of the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in February.
In her first post since February 17, Mirabel shared a video of herself with the caption:
“I survived, so I’m awaiting your hate comments.”
Mirabel first drew widespread attention in February after posting emotional videos on TikTok alleging that she had been sexually assaulted at her residence on February 15.
The posts sparked public concern and prompted the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) to respond. The agency initially said it was trying to reach her but later clarified that the alleged incident occurred in Ogun State and therefore fell outside its jurisdiction.
The situation later became controversial after social media users raised questions about inconsistencies in Mirabel’s account.
On June 24, the Ogun State Ministry of Justice said its investigation established that Mirabel’s rape allegation was false. The ministry said findings from relevant authorities, together with admissions attributed to Mirabel, indicated that the allegation had been deliberately fabricated.
Rather than prosecute her, the Ogun State Government decided to place her under psychosocial rehabilitation, after which she was released into the care of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
Her return to social media now marks her first public appearance on the platform since February.
