Natasha Osawaru, wife of Nigerian music star 2Baba, has emerged as the new Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly.
Osawaru, who represents Egor Constituency, was announced as Minority Leader during plenary on Monday as part of a reshuffle of the Assembly’s principal leadership.
The development followed the resignation of Blessing Agbebaku as Speaker amid reported moves by lawmakers to remove him from office. Yekini Idaiyi, representing Akoko Edo II Constituency, was subsequently elected as his replacement.
Osawaru, who previously served as Deputy Majority Leader, said her new position represents a responsibility to the people rather than simply a political title.
“This new responsibility is not a title; it is a trust,” she said.
She said democracy requires rigorous debate, accountability and the courage to speak up for ordinary citizens, while pledging her commitment to the development of Edo State, the NDC and the people of Egor.
Her statement described the appointment as a reflection of the confidence placed in her by her colleagues and constituents, adding that her previous role in the Assembly had demonstrated her ability to provide leadership across political divides.
Osawaru said her commitment to the progress of Edo State and the prosperity of the people of Egor remains absolute.
Natasha married singer 2Baba in July 2025 after his separation from his former wife, Annie Macaulay Idibia. The couple later held a dedication ceremony for their first child together in February.
