Afrobeats singer Davido has declared that he no longer wants to be involved in Nigerian politics, describing the country’s political landscape as “evil.”
The 33-year-old singer made the statement on X while responding to a post by APC National Youth Leader, Dayo Israel, who discussed factors he believed contributed to the party’s defeat in the Osun governorship election.
Davido’s uncle, Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, won the election with 511,067 votes, defeating APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. ADC candidate Najeem Salaam came third with 17,180 votes.
Israel had credited Davido with helping mobilise young people for Adeleke’s campaign, saying the singer used his influence, networks and digital reach to connect the campaign with younger voters.
Davido, however, rejected the claim that he brought artistes and influencers into Osun to influence the election.
He said he supported his family independently and accused those criticising him of being unfair.
“I brought no one! No one defended me! I backed my family on my own!!”
The singer then announced his decision to distance himself from politics.
“Nigerian politics is evil, and I don’t want to be a part of it till God helps us!”
Davido had previously expressed interest in Nigerian politics. After announcing plans to join Accord in December 2025, he later reconsidered, saying he was concerned that active involvement in governance could affect his music career.
He was eventually appointed head of youth mobilisation for Accord during his uncle’s re-election campaign.
Davido has also recently declared that he would never support the All Progressives Congress (APC).
