A youth group within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for greater recognition and participation of young Nigerians in governance, while pledging to mobilise 10 million votes for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
The group, Youths on Ground Progressive and Mentorship Initiative (YOG), made the call through its National Coordinator, Dr Obioma Nwuba, who said young people should no longer be brought into politics only during elections and abandoned afterwards.
Nwuba urged the Federal Government and APC governors to partner with the organisation on youth empowerment, agriculture, job creation and grassroots development.
“Mr President, you have given us the vision. Give us the vehicle. YOG is that vehicle, tested, structured, and already on the ground.”
He said the group was not seeking handouts but wanted its members to be integrated into government programmes focused on food security, employment and skills development.
“The time for youth conferences is over. The time for youth contracts is now.”
According to Nwuba, YOG was established in August 2025 to mobilise, mentor and empower young Nigerians while encouraging greater youth participation in governance and civic activities.
He identified its major areas of focus as political participation, policy advocacy, community peacebuilding and economic empowerment.
Nwuba also highlighted programmes carried out by the group, including youth summits, Agro-Tech training and mentorship initiatives in Enugu, Taraba and Niger states, as well as a health outreach programme in the Federal Capital Territory.
He said the organisation plans to expand its activities across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones and urged government at both federal and state levels to work more closely with structured youth groups.
The APC youth group maintained that young Nigerians should be treated as partners in national development rather than simply as political supporters during election periods.
Nwuba said YOG’s long-term goal was to build a disciplined network of young Nigerians capable of contributing to economic development, strengthening democracy and supporting the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
