The Kebbi State Government has pledged to support the families of the 10 police officers killed by terrorists during an ambush in the state.
The officers were reportedly killed along the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area while assisting sister security agencies in efforts to combat terrorism in the area.
Governor Nasir Idris made the pledge on Tuesday when he received a delegation sent to Kebbi by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
The delegation was led by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Umar Shehu-Nadada.
Idris condoled with the Nigeria Police Force over the loss of the officers, describing their deaths as a sacrifice made in the line of duty.
“I want to condole the IGP and the NPF over the sudden death of these officers. It is our tradition in Kebbi to assist the families of fallen officers who died in the line of duty,” the governor said.
He assured the families of the deceased personnel that the state government would provide support to help them cope with the loss.
“The Kebbi Government will come to the aid of the families of these officers who paid the supreme price,” Idris pledged.
Police Vow to Arrest Attackers
Earlier, the IGP, represented by DIG Operations, conveyed the police leadership’s condolences to Governor Idris, the people of Kebbi State and the families of the slain officers.
He vowed that the Nigeria Police Force would intensify efforts to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack.
“Please rest assured that we are not going to relent in our efforts. All the attackers will be arrested and brought to book,” he assured.
The IGP also commended the Kebbi State Government for its continued support for security operations in the state.
He further disclosed that a new police squadron would soon be established in Kebbi State as part of efforts to strengthen security operations.
