Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to United States President Donald Trump and the international community to pay close attention to the upcoming Osun State governorship election amid concerns over possible violence and disruption.
Davido made the appeal in a post on his X handle on Tuesday as political activities intensified ahead of the August 15 election.
The singer said he was drawing Trump’s attention to the situation in Osun, where political tension has raised concerns about possible intimidation and violence during the poll.
According to Davido, residents of the state should be allowed to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely and without fear.
“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election,” he said.
The singer specifically called on Trump and other international stakeholders to monitor the election closely and ensure that voters are protected and their votes respected.
Davido’s intervention comes amid heightened political activities surrounding the election, which has attracted significant attention due to the major contenders in the race.
The singer has also been vocal about developments surrounding the Osun election, particularly as incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is his uncle, seeks another term in office.
He stressed that Osun residents should be able to go to their polling units without intimidation and freely choose their preferred candidate.
Davido also called on relevant authorities responsible for election administration and security to ensure that the democratic process is protected and that no group is allowed to compromise the election.
The August 15 governorship election will determine who governs Osun State for the next four years.
Davido ended his appeal by reiterating his opposition to violence and calling for peace, transparency and a free and fair election.
