Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has appealed to voters to support his re-election bid, saying his administration has delivered significant development across the state and deserves another term.
Adeleke made the remarks on Tuesday during the Arise Townhall, where he highlighted his administration’s achievements and outlined his plans ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The governor recalled his defeat in the 2018 election, saying he returned to school before eventually coming back to win the governorship race in 2022.
“I was cheated in 2018. I went back to school and returned in 2022,” he said.
Adeleke assured residents that public resources would be used for the benefit of the people, promising that more projects and interventions were still coming.
“Osun State money will stay in Osun,” he said, adding that “more goodies are on the way.”
Adeleke Defends His Projects
The governor highlighted road construction as one of the major areas where his administration had made progress, saying some of the roads had been abandoned for decades before his government intervened.
He rejected allegations that the roads constructed under his administration were of poor quality, insisting that qualified Nigerian engineers were involved in the projects.
“It is a sin to say that the roads I constructed are substandard. I used professional engineers. I used Nigerian engineers. I supervised their work,” Adeleke said.
He said his administration had “done so much” for residents and accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of using propaganda to discredit his achievements.
‘Nobody Will Stop Me From Dancing’
Adeleke also defended his well-known dancing, saying the hobby had no connection with his ability to govern.
“Nobody will stop me from dancing. I dance and work. There is time to dance and there is time to work,” he said.
The governor accused those who criticise his dancing of being jealous and jokingly offered to teach them how to work if they wanted.
He also alleged that the APC was using federal influence to intimidate voters ahead of the election, but expressed confidence that he would retain his seat.
“Dancing is my hobby. In this election, I will be victorious,” Adeleke said.
Adeleke Speaks on Security
On security, the governor said his background in criminology had given him the knowledge needed to tackle security challenges in Osun.
“I am a security expert. I studied criminology. My aim is to protect my people, and I am doing that,” he said.
Adeleke disclosed that his administration had recruited about 1,500 Amotekun personnel, who he said received training from senior security officers.
He alleged that Osun had remained relatively peaceful until the election period, when he claimed some individuals began resorting to intimidation and violence.
“Osun has been peaceful until recent times, when the election approaches. They started intimidating and killing our people,” he alleged.
The governor said he had raised the security concerns with relevant authorities and consulted security experts on measures to protect residents before, during and after the election.
