Vice President Kashim Shettima is using his two-week break from official duties to read, reflect and deepen his knowledge, according to the Presidency.
Photos released on Monday showed the Vice President spending part of his leave reading books, offering a glimpse into how he is choosing to spend his time away from his official responsibilities.
Shettima began the two-week leave on August 7, with his return expected around August 20.
His Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, said the break provides Shettima with an opportunity to step away from the demands of office and dedicate time to learning and reflection.
“As predicted by many, during his two-week leave, Vice President Kashim Shettima, by custom, takes time for study and reflection,” Nkwocha said.
According to him, taking a break from the pressure of daily responsibilities allows leaders to examine ideas more carefully and return to work with a clearer perspective.
“Leadership is sustained by the willingness to keep learning… For the Vice President, the period is also an opportunity to deepen the knowledge required for continued service to Nigeria,” he said.
Nkwocha also stressed that learning should remain a continuous part of leadership, regardless of the level of responsibility a person holds.
“Learning does not end when responsibility begins. In many ways, greater responsibility makes learning even more necessary,” he added.
The photographs of Shettima reading during his leave have since offered Nigerians a look at the quieter side of the Vice President’s break, with the Presidency presenting the period as one focused on study, reflection and personal development.
