Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested a 36-year-old woman in Onitsha following open-source intelligence linked to a trending video depicting the alleged sexual abuse of a minor.
The operation, conducted on the evening of September 10, 2026, also led to the rescue of four children aged two, three, six and nine years.
Police said sex toys and other items considered relevant to the investigation were recovered during the operation.
The Command said preliminary investigations had commenced, while the husband of the arrested woman was also being questioned to establish whether he had any connection to the alleged offence.
“The suspect is currently in police custody as the Command intensifies its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence and the possible involvement of other persons,” the Command stated.
“The husband of the suspect is also undergoing interrogation to determine whether he has any connection with the alleged offence.”
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Ama, psc, expressed deep concern over the alleged abuse, describing the reported conduct as unacceptable given the vulnerability of the children involved.
He directed a comprehensive investigation into the matter and ordered that the rescued children receive immediate protection and welfare support.
“To this end, the Command notes that beyond the investigation and prosecution, its priority is the safety, dignity and wellbeing of the rescued children.
“The Command will work with the appropriate child-protection and relevant support agencies to ensure that the victims receive the necessary care, protection, counselling and other support required for their recovery.
“Their identities and privacy will be protected throughout the process, and they will be treated with compassion and sensitivity,” it added.
The police also commended vigilante operatives in the area, as well as bloggers and residents whose information assisted the investigation and contributed to the arrest of the suspect.
The Command said investigations were ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged offence and determine whether other persons were involved.
