The Federal Government has assured parents, guardians and students of adequate security as all Federal Unity Colleges across the country prepare to resume academic activities on September 14.
The assurance was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs Folasade Boriowo, on behalf of the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa.
Alausa said the government had put the necessary arrangements in place to ensure a safe, orderly and smooth beginning of the new academic session.
“The safety and wellbeing of students and staff remain central to the Federal Government’s commitment to providing a secure and conducive environment for teaching and learning,” Alausa said.
The minister disclosed that relevant security agencies had been informed of the resumption plans and were maintaining increased vigilance around Federal Unity Colleges and their surrounding areas.
He explained that the coordinated security measures were aimed at protecting students, staff and members of the school communities as academic activities resume nationwide.
Alausa urged parents and guardians to remain calm, depend on information from official sources and make the necessary preparations for their children and wards to return to their respective colleges on Monday.
He also directed school authorities to maintain regular communication and coordination with security agencies and other relevant authorities to ensure an orderly and secure resumption.
The minister called on students, parents, teachers, school administrators and other stakeholders to work collectively towards maintaining a peaceful, supportive and safe environment within the schools.
“The safety and wellbeing of learners remain a shared responsibility,” he said.
Alausa said the Ministry of Education would continue to monitor developments and take necessary measures, in collaboration with relevant authorities, to ensure that academic activities resume safely and smoothly in all Federal Unity Colleges.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the country’s education system and ensuring that Nigerian children have access to quality education in a safe and conducive environment.
“This commitment is in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which recognises education and human capital development as essential to Nigeria’s sustainable growth and national development,” he said.
The ministry therefore assured students, parents, guardians, teachers and the general public that all necessary measures had been put in place to support a safe, peaceful and successful resumption across Federal Unity Colleges nationwide.
