Nashville International Airport in Tennessee, the home of country music, is set to be renamed in honour of legendary singer Dolly Parton.
The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) voted unanimously, 6-0, on Friday to honour the country music icon by changing the name of the city’s main international airport.
The authority said the final name had not yet been decided, adding that discussions were ongoing on how best to incorporate Parton’s name and legacy into the airport’s new identity.
“While a final name has not yet been determined, we are working closely with the appropriate parties to thoughtfully determine how Dolly Parton’s name and legacy will be incorporated,” the MNAA said in a statement.
Parton, one of the most celebrated figures in country music, died at the age of 80 on August 25 following a brief battle with cancer.
The decision to rename the airport is expected to serve as a lasting tribute to the singer’s contribution to music and her connection to Tennessee.
