Digital financial services provider OPay has dismissed viral reports claiming that it will suspend operations from Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
The rumour, which circulated on social media, alleged that the fintech would embark on an indefinite shutdown and stop processing transactions and account-related services.
The viral message also urged OPay customers to withdraw their funds ahead of the alleged shutdown, raising concerns among some users.
However, OPay described the report as false and malicious, assuring customers that it has no plans to stop its operations.
“OPay is not going on break by September. We’re here, and we’re going nowhere!”
The company urged customers to be cautious of unofficial information circulating online and said genuine OPay communications could be distinguished from fake posts.
OPay also advised members of the public to verify information before sharing it, particularly when claims could affect their finances or accounts.
“Always verify before you share. Filter the noise!”
The fintech encouraged customers to rely on its verified social media platforms for authentic updates and official communications.
The clarification comes amid growing concerns over the spread of misinformation on social media, with OPay urging customers not to act on unverified claims about its services.
