Ten members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who were abducted by suspected kidnappers have been rescued from Egume Forest in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) disclosed this on Monday, saying the rescue operation was carried out by joint security forces.
The victims were among 15 corps members who were kidnapped last week while travelling from Abuja to Bayelsa State.
The kidnappers had reportedly demanded ₦20 million in ransom from the families of some of the abducted corps members.
According to the DHQ, security forces are still conducting operations to rescue the remaining victims and apprehend those responsible for the abduction.
The military said the ongoing operation involves efforts to locate the remaining corps members and track down the suspected kidnappers.
The DHQ urged members of the public to remain calm and vigilant while the rescue operation continues.
It also appealed to residents to promptly report suspicious movements or any information that could assist security agencies in locating the remaining victims and arresting the perpetrators.
The development comes as security agencies intensify efforts to tackle kidnapping and other criminal activities along major travel routes across the country.
