The Ogun State Police Command says its operatives have killed two suspected kidnappers and rescued an abducted victim during an operation along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road in Yewa South Local Government Area of the state.
The operation was carried out by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit as part of ongoing efforts to tackle kidnapping and other criminal activities across Ogun State.
The command said the operation followed actionable intelligence received after a professional truck driver was abducted in the Ajibawo area of Ibese.
According to the police, the victim was kidnapped at about 11:10 p.m. on August 25, 2026.
Following the report, operatives immediately launched efforts to locate the victim, rescue him and apprehend those allegedly responsible for the abduction.
The police said operatives later identified and stormed the suspected kidnappers’ hideout along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road.
During the operation, two suspected members of the gang were reportedly killed, while other alleged gang members escaped from the scene with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.
“Two suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while other members of the gang fled the scene with different degrees of gunshot injuries.”
A search of the hideout led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of 5.6mm live ammunition, two mobile phones and ₦2 million in cash.
The police said the cash was reasonably suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.
The bodies of the two suspects were deposited at a morgue for autopsy, while the Command said efforts had been intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing members of the alleged gang.
The police described the operation as a major breakthrough in its efforts to disrupt kidnapping networks and protect residents across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, said Ogun would remain hostile territory for criminal elements, assuring residents that the Command would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing, tactical operations and partnerships with communities.
He also urged residents to remain security-conscious and provide credible information to security agencies.
The Commissioner specifically appealed to members of the public to report anyone seeking medical treatment for gunshot wounds, noting that such information could assist ongoing efforts to locate the fleeing suspects.
