The Nigeria Police Force says it has arrested four suspects allegedly linked to an organ harvesting and human trafficking syndicate operating in Nasarawa State.
The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Special Tactical Squad following intelligence received by the police, according to Force Public Relations Officer Ani Iniedu.
Iniedu said the operation was carried out on August 19 in Auta Balifi, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, with the suspects later paraded by the police.
The suspects are Emmanuel Ode, 23; Dr Benjamin Oyime, 48; Dr Daniel Otukpa, 53; and David Idoko, 25.
Police Allege Kidney Harvesting
According to the police, Ode allegedly admitted recruiting victims under false pretences.
Investigators said he allegedly lured a 22-year-old man, identified as Samuel Ezekiel, to Wellington Hospital in Life Camp, Abuja, in April 2026, where his kidney was allegedly harvested.
Police said the victim was reportedly paid $1,250, equivalent to about N1.7 million.
Another alleged victim reportedly told investigators that he was lured by the same agent in 2022 and had his kidney harvested after being taken to a hospital. He allegedly received N7 million.
The police said the suspects allegedly targeted vulnerable and financially disadvantaged young people from Nasarawa and neighbouring areas.
According to the investigation, the victims were allegedly persuaded to undergo illegal organ harvesting by people who exploited their financial difficulties.
Police Recover Evidence, Hunt More Suspects
The Force spokesperson said investigators also uncovered allegations that official documents were forged to facilitate the alleged activities.
The documents allegedly included victims’ names, National Identification Numbers (NINs), birth certificates, age declarations, affidavits and consent letters.
Police also recovered clothing allegedly purchased with proceeds from the suspected criminal activities.
The four suspects remain under investigation, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other individuals allegedly connected to the syndicate.
The police said the investigation would continue to establish the full extent of the alleged operation and identify other victims and suspects.
