The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Lagos State Chapter, has mourned the death of veteran Nollywood actor Chief Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, who reportedly died on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
The guild described Ogogo as a giant of Nigerian cinema whose acting career spanned more than three decades and earned him widespread recognition for his commanding screen presence, powerful voice and dedication to telling authentic Nigerian stories.
According to the AGN Lagos chapter, Ogogo was also a mentor to many actors, a disciplinarian on set and a strong ambassador of Yoruba culture and Nigerian values.
The Director of Communications of the Lagos chapter, speaking on behalf of the chairman, executives and members, expressed deep sadness over the veteran actor’s death.
“Ogogo’s death is a huge loss to the creative industry. He represented excellence, integrity and the golden era of Nollywood.”
The guild said it would celebrate Ogogo’s life, works and lasting contribution to the Nigerian film industry.
It extended its condolences to his immediate family, the national body of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, the wider Nollywood community and his millions of fans around the world.
The AGN Lagos chapter also prayed for the repose of his soul and for God to give his family the strength to cope with the loss.
The guild added that details of a befitting tribute and funeral arrangements would be announced in due course after consultations with Ogogo’s family and the national body of the AGN.
