The All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled its 108-member presidential campaign council ahead of the 2027 general election, with former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari appointed as Director-General.
President Bola Tinubu will chair the council, while Vice-President Kashim Shettima will serve as vice chairman. APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda has also been named a vice chairman.
The appointments come as the party begins preparations for the presidential campaign, following the opening of the campaign period by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Yari Named Campaign DG
According to the list released by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru will serve as deputy secretary, while Hadiza Bala-Usman has been appointed assistant secretary.
The council’s advisory team includes Bisi Akande, Segun Osoba, Rochas Okorocha, Abdullahi Adamu and Florence Ita Giwa.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni will serve as deputy director-generals for the southern and northern operations.
They will work alongside Senator Opeyemi Bamidele and Senator Jibril Barau across the two zones.
Oshiomhole, Gbajabiamila, Faleke Get Key Roles
Former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole has been appointed deputy director-general in charge of mobilisation, while Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila will oversee administration as deputy director-general.
James Faleke, who was involved in Tinubu’s previous presidential campaign, has retained the position of deputy director-general for election planning, coordination and monitoring.
Faleke will work with zonal directors including Olushola Adeyeye in the South-West, Ngozi Olejeme in the South-South, Uche Ekwunife in the South-East, Muntaqha Rabe in the North-West, Ahmed Muhammed Ketso in the North-Central and Sani Danladi in the North-East.
Other officials named include Stella Okotete, Abdullahi Garba Ramat and Audu Maikori as secretaries of the election planning directorate.
Muiz Banire will serve as legal director, alongside Attorney-General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi and Kingsley Udeh.
Idris to Lead Media and Strategic Communication
Information and National Orientation Minister Mohammed Idris has been appointed coordinating director for media and strategic communication.
He will work with Solid Minerals Development Minister Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu.
The media directorate also features Tunde Rahman, Sunday Dare, Daniel Bwala and APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka as coordinating deputy directors.
Temitope Ajayi, Arabinrin Aderonke and Fredrick Nwabufo will serve as coordinating secretaries.
Five spokespersons were also appointed: Dele Alake, Alwan Hassan, Ayobami Oyalowo, Kemi Asekun-Shittu and Adamu Fanda.
Tinubu Charges Council With Victory
President Tinubu urged members of the campaign council to work aggressively towards securing victory for the APC in the January 2027 presidential election.
He also asked directorate leaders to bring other party members into their activities, even if they were not formally included in the council.
Tinubu said the administration had delivered on its campaign promises and was positioning the country for economic growth.
“We have delivered on our campaign promises and set our country on a path of economic progress.”
The President also urged the campaign team to highlight the administration’s achievements and persuade Nigerians to support its agenda.
“Let us confidently showcase our record and inspire hope in every corner of our nation.”
2027 Campaigns Underway
INEC officially opened campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections on Wednesday.
Under the commission’s revised timetable, the campaign period will continue until January 14, 2027.
Tinubu faces major opposition figures in the race, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, and Peter Obi, who is identified in the supplied report as the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer.
With the APC now unveiling its campaign structure, attention is set to shift towards how the party will mobilise support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election.
