Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo says his ambition to become Nigeria’s president is driven by a desire to confront the country’s biggest challenges, particularly insecurity and poverty.
With the 2027 presidential election approaching, Adebayo said he is not seeking the presidency for wealth, fame or personal advancement.
According to him, some of Nigeria’s problems require the authority and resources of the Federal Government to solve effectively.
He pointed to insecurity as an example, arguing that a state governor cannot independently restructure the Armed Forces or coordinate security operations across the country.
Adebayo said this is why he believes the presidency provides the right platform to tackle issues that affect Nigerians nationwide.
The SDP candidate also rejected the idea that only wealthy individuals can successfully contest for president.
He maintained that competence, patriotism and commitment to public service should be more important than personal wealth.
Adebayo, who also contested the 2023 presidential election under the SDP, said he has spent years focused on intellectual work and creating opportunities rather than building personal wealth.
He further pledged that his political movement would not depend on criminal activities or the pursuit of money to gain political power.
Citing Section 5 of the Nigerian Constitution, Adebayo noted that executive powers of the Federation are vested in the President, who also serves as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
He argued that these constitutional powers make the presidency the strongest platform for addressing challenges that cut across the entire country.
