Big Brother Naija star Bella Okagbue has spoken publicly about her breakup with fellow reality TV star Sheggz, saying she decided to address the situation after watching people tell her story for her.
Bella, in a series of posts on her Instagram Story, explained that she initially chose to remain silent because she believed certain parts of the relationship should remain private.
“For the past few days, I have watched people tell my story for me. I stayed silent because I believed some things deserved to remain private, but my silence should never be mistaken for guilt.”
‘I Loved Genuinely’
Bella said she genuinely loved Sheggz and defended their relationship because she believed in it at the time.
She explained that she also agreed to give him another chance because she believes people are capable of growth and change.
“I loved genuinely. I defended the relationship because I believed in it at the time, and I chose to give someone I loved a second chance because I believe people can grow and change.”
However, Bella stressed that believing someone can change does not mean she has to wait forever for that change to happen.
She also suggested that Sheggz’s public personality may not completely reflect the person she experienced privately.
“The person everyone experiences publicly isn’t always the person you experience privately.”
‘A Ring Doesn’t Fix What Made a Relationship Impossible’
Addressing conversations about marriage and Sheggz’s reported plans to marry her, Bella said wanting to marry someone she loved should not be interpreted as desperation.
She said knowing when to walk away from a relationship is an important form of discernment, adding that a marriage proposal or ring cannot fix deeper relationship problems.
“Knowing when not to marry them is discernment.”
“A ring doesn’t fix what made a relationship impossible.”
Bella Says Some Stories Online Are Not Her Experience
Bella also addressed the different versions of events circulating online, saying some do not reflect what she experienced.
She noted that there are also parts of her experience she has deliberately chosen not to discuss publicly and would only share when she considers the time appropriate.
“There are versions of events circulating that do not reflect my experience, just as there are parts of my experience I have chosen not to discuss publicly yet.”
‘I Gave Love, Change and Loyalty a Chance’
The reality TV star said she gave the relationship love, loyalty and an opportunity to change, but eventually reached a point where continuing was no longer possible.
“I gave love a chance. I gave change a chance. I gave loyalty in abundance.”
She added that even loyalty has a limit when trust, respect and peace can no longer exist together.
Bella said she does not regret giving the relationship another opportunity, but now respects herself enough to know when trying again is no longer the right choice.
“I don’t regret being the woman who chose to try again. I respect the woman I am today enough to know when trying again is no longer the answer.”
She concluded by saying she had chosen herself and was prepared to accept whatever consequences came with that decision.
“So today, I choose myself. I choose differently, regardless of what comes with it.”
