Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Thursday visited President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he presented his Certificate of Return following his victory in the August 15 governorship election.
Adeleke arrived at the State House at about 5:25pm, after securing re-election on the platform of the Accord Party.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner after he polled 511,067 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 444,815 votes.
Adeleke won the election by a margin of 66,252 votes, securing victory in 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11.
President Tinubu had personally called Adeleke to congratulate him following the victory.
The President described the outcome as:
“A fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our country.”
Tinubu also urged Adeleke to unite the people of Osun State regardless of their political affiliations and choices during the election.
Adeleke’s Villa Visit
Four other Osun officials were also seen arriving at the Presidential Villa. They included Director-General of the Adeleke Campaign Council, Senator Lere Oyewumi; council member Sunday Bisi; Osun State Chief of Staff, Akinleye Kazeem; and Bamidele Salam, member of the House of Representatives representing Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo Federal Constituency.
Adeleke’s re-election is significant in Osun politics, particularly because he contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party after the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) adopted his candidacy and directed its structures to support his re-election.
His meeting with Tinubu has attracted political interest as parties and politicians intensify realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting also comes amid Tinubu’s recent engagements with political leaders and senior government officials as preparations for the 2027 political season gather momentum.
