The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has declared its readiness to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election, with the party backing Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as its candidate.
As campaigns officially begin, the party said it has already established networks across the country, built alliances with opposition parties and put together a campaign structure it believes is capable of taking on the ruling APC and protecting its votes.
APM National Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Abubakar, disclosed this in Abuja on Wednesday, expressing confidence in Makinde’s popularity and record in office.
“We have a very popular Presidential candidate in Governor Seyi Makinde,” Abubakar said.
He said the party had developed strategies not only to win the election but also to ensure that votes cast for Makinde are properly protected throughout the electoral process.
According to Abubakar, the APM has assembled what it described as credible personnel to manage the campaign, with the full campaign structure expected to be unveiled soon.
He said the party had spent the past several months consulting with Nigerians across different parts of the country and building alliances with other opposition parties in preparation for the presidential contest.
Abubakar argued that dissatisfaction with the Tinubu administration had created an opportunity for Makinde to present himself as an alternative candidate capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges.
“Most Nigerians have expressed their readiness to vote in Seyi Makinde as the credible alternative to President Tinubu,” he claimed.
The APM spokesman also pointed to the recent Osun State governorship election as evidence of what he described as the power of voters to determine electoral outcomes.
He said the result demonstrated that Nigerians could use their votes to decide who governs them, expressing confidence that voters would unite behind Makinde in the 2027 presidential election.
“Come January, 2027 Nigerians will speak with one voice for Seyi Makinde,” Abubakar said.
The party also promised to operate within the law and make the protection of its votes a major part of its campaign strategy.
Abubakar called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure that the 2027 elections are free, fair and credible.
He stressed that the final outcome of the election should reflect the genuine choice of Nigerians as expressed through their votes at the ballot box.
