The family of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has dismissed viral reports claiming that the 66-year-old actor has died, describing the reports as false.
The rumour began circulating on Tuesday after a Facebook user falsely claimed that one of Ogogo’s daughters, Haleemah Taiwo, had announced his death following an alleged rejection by several hospitals.
The claim quickly spread across social media, prompting Ogogo’s daughter, Lima Taiwo, to respond on Instagram.
“This is false!!!!!!! This is false!!!!! This is false!!!!! THIS IS FAKE… PLEASE STOP SPREADING FAKE NEWS,” Lima said.
The family’s clarification comes a day after Lima and her sister, Kira Taiwo, publicly appealed for medical assistance for their father, who is battling stage four cancer.
In an emotional video shared on Instagram, Lima said the family discovered the seriousness of Ogogo’s condition about three weeks ago, explaining that his physical appearance had initially made the severity of the illness difficult to recognise.
She stressed that the family was not asking for financial donations, but was urgently seeking access to hospitals and medical specialists who could provide further treatment for the actor.
Kira also revealed that doctors had informed the family that the hospital currently managing Ogogo’s condition could no longer administer chemotherapy because of the advanced stage of his illness.
She appealed to cancer specialists, hospitals and medical professionals who may be able to assist, saying the family remained determined to find treatment for their father.
The family has now urged the public to disregard the death reports and avoid sharing unverified information as Ogogo continues his battle with cancer.
