Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said he has no plans to pursue a political career despite his active involvement in the recent Osun State governorship election.
Speaking to journalists at his uncle Governor Ademola Adeleke’s country home in Ede on Tuesday, Davido said his focus is on supporting the development of Osun, particularly through entertainment and youth engagement.
“No, I don’t have any future political ambition,” Davido said.
The singer, who serves as Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund, also announced plans to organise a major concert in the state after the governor’s inauguration in December.
He said young artistes from Osun would be given an opportunity to perform alongside him, with a competition potentially organised to select performers for the event.
Davido also revealed plans to establish a recreational centre in Osun, saying discussions were already underway to secure land for the project.
According to him, the centre would provide opportunities for young people, attract thousands of youths monthly and help keep them engaged rather than on the streets.
The singer commended Osun youths for their participation in the governorship election, saying their involvement helped restore hope and confidence in the electoral process ahead of next year’s general elections.
He also called for unity and forgiveness following the election, particularly among youths involved in electoral violence, stressing that peace should remain the priority.
Davido further urged the rehabilitation of youths involved in electoral violence and appealed to residents to forgive one another in the interest of peace and the state’s future.
