Nigerian singer Omah Lay has revealed that he has stopped trying to quit smoking after previously making efforts to give up the habit.
The 28-year-old artiste discussed his smoking habit during a recent interview on the Zach Sang Show, explaining that he eventually accepted that quitting was something he was struggling with.
Omah Lay said he now views smoking as part of his lifestyle and wants to enjoy his life despite knowing that everyone will eventually die.
“I love smoking a lot. I tried to stop, I forced myself but I can’t. It’s like a lot of contradiction. Honestly bro, life is just one.”
The singer also spoke about his use of weed, describing it as a source of what he called “artificial happiness” and a feeling of rebellion because of its illegal status in Nigeria.
“I just want to be at peace and smoke my weed.”
He said the experience of smoking weed while growing up in Nigeria could make young people feel like criminals because of its legal status.
Omah Lay maintained that he has decided to accept his lifestyle rather than continue forcing himself to quit.
“This is it. This is my life. I will just live it. I will enjoy every single thing that I have.”
The singer has previously made bold statements about his position in the Nigerian music industry.
In April, he described himself as Nigeria’s best artiste of the past 20 years and called himself the “greatest Afrobeats artiste of the decade.”
He later referred to himself as “God” while explaining his belief in himself.
“I believe in the creator. I believe in the universe. I believe in myself, mostly in myself because I believe I am God.”
