American actress Hayden Panettiere, best known for her roles in Heroes and Nashville, has died at the age of 36, according to her representative and a statement from her family.
Panettiere’s father, Skip Panettiere, confirmed her death and described his daughter as an “incredible light” who brought joy to those around her and to millions of fans who watched her work.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden,” he said.
He asked the family to be given privacy as they come to terms with the loss. The circumstances surrounding her death have not been disclosed, and the cause remains under investigation.
Born in 1989, Panettiere began her acting career as a child and went on to establish herself in both television and film.
She gained widespread recognition as Claire Bennet in the hit series Heroes and later starred as Juliette Barnes in the musical drama Nashville. She also appeared in films including Remember the Titans, Raising Helen, Ice Princess and the Scream franchise.
Panettiere was also open about the challenges she faced throughout her life and career. Earlier this year, she released her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, in which she reflected on her experiences with child stardom, addiction and recovery.
Her death comes after a career spanning decades, beginning with childhood roles and continuing through major television and film projects.
She is survived by her daughter, Kaya Klitschko.
