The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 10 suspected human parts dealers and recovered suspected human remains and charms during operations in parts of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Ibadan.
According to Ayanlade, the arrests followed months of intelligence gathering and discreet surveillance by operatives of the command’s monitoring unit.
He said the suspects were apprehended at separate locations in Iseyin and Saki, where police subsequently searched their alleged hideouts.
The searches reportedly led to the recovery of several suspected human parts, including a suspected human heart, human flesh and pieces of human skull, as well as assorted charms.
The recovered items have been secured for forensic examination as investigators work to establish their source, how they were obtained and their intended use.
The suspects are currently assisting with the investigation, while police efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the alleged syndicate.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Olugbenga, commended the operatives for what he described as a painstaking intelligence-led operation.
He assured residents that the command would continue its efforts to tackle criminal activities and protect human lives across the state.
