President Bola Tinubu has assured residents of Osun State that adequate security measures have been put in place ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, urging voters to turn out without fear or intimidation.
Tinubu gave the assurance on Thursday through Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who represented him at the APC governorship campaign rally in Osogbo. The event also featured the formal presentation of APC candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji to supporters.
Akpabio said security arrangements had been made across the state to allow residents to freely cast their votes.
“Adequate security has been provided all over the state to ensure people come out to cast their votes… without any fear or intimidation.”
Tinubu also urged voters to make their choices wisely, while Akpabio appealed for a peaceful election.
Akpabio predicts APC victory
Akpabio said the large crowd at the rally was evidence of growing support for the APC in Osun.
He also mentioned several prominent political figures, including former governor Bisi Akande, former APC National Secretary Iyiola Omisore and Senator Francis Fadahunsi, as signs of the party’s strength ahead of the election.
The Senate President further acknowledged opposition figures who he said had expressed support for Oyebamiji.
APC candidate gets infrastructure charge
Akpabio also criticised the condition of roads connecting Ibadan and Osun, saying the state deserved better infrastructure.
He charged Oyebamiji, whom he referred to as “AMBO,” to prioritise infrastructure and deliver what he described as meaningful democratic dividends if elected.
The Osun governorship election is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, with voters across the state expected to choose their next governor.
