The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed 2,500 personnel and 50 operational vehicles to Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, as authorities step up preparations for a safe and orderly poll.
The deployment includes seven heavy-duty tow trucks and six ambulances, which will support traffic control, emergency response and road safety operations across the state.
According to the FRSC, the personnel and equipment have been positioned across Osun’s three senatorial districts. About 2,300 officers are from the Osun Sector Command, while additional personnel have been deployed from neighbouring Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo and Ogun states.
The Corps said the deployment is aimed at ensuring smooth movement for election officials, accredited observers, security personnel and other road users before, during and after the election.
FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed said the agency would remain professional and neutral while carrying out its responsibilities.
“We will be firm, professional and impartial in the discharge of our responsibilities.”
The FRSC will also hold a Train-the-Trainer Workshop for personnel assigned to election duties, with representatives from the FRSC, Nigeria Police Force, INEC, DSS and NSCDC expected to participate.
The agency said it would inspect and certify vehicles being used to transport election materials to ensure they are roadworthy and meet safety requirements.
The FRSC also warned that the restriction of movement would be enforced in designated areas. Enforcement vehicles are expected to begin deployment from 6:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Motorists and transport operators have been advised to plan their journeys ahead, obey traffic regulations and avoid restricted routes. FRSC personnel will also handle traffic control, crowd management, obstruction clearance and rescue operations throughout the electoral period.
