The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its nationwide war against illicit drugs, arresting multiple suspects and intercepting large quantities of narcotics during coordinated operations across several states.
The agency recorded one of its biggest seizures in Taraba State, where operatives intercepted a truck transporting building materials from Anambra to Jalingo after acting on intelligence reports. A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered a large cache of drugs hidden beneath the cargo.
Recovered items included 320,840 capsules of tramadol, 600 ampoules of pentazocine injection, 4,500 rohypnol tablets, and 299 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup. A 22-year-old suspect, Buhari Abdullahi, was arrested in connection with the shipment.
In Ebonyi State, NDLEA operatives arrested 75-year-old Okebe Samuel at Okposi and recovered quantities of skunk allegedly packaged for retail distribution to youths in the community.
The crackdown also extended to Imo State, where officers raided a drug hotspot in Umulolo, Orlu, arresting 32-year-old Chioma Okeke and recovering eight kilograms of skunk.
In Edo State, operatives carried out raids across identified drug blackspots in Benin City, leading to the arrest of four suspected traffickers, including three women. The suspects were identified as Chioma Igba (24), Precious Ozomah (22), Anita Abraham (21), and Henry Okey (43).
According to the agency, substances recovered during the operation included skunk, loud, methamphetamine, lolorado, and swinol.
Further operations in Kano State led to the arrest of 19-year-old Saifullahi Lawan, who was caught with 38 kilograms of skunk, while another suspect, Ugwu Sabastine Ifebuchi, was arrested in Gombe State with 15,000 capsules of tramadol.
Beyond enforcement, the NDLEA said it continues to expand its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign through sensitisation programmes in schools and communities across the country.
Commending officers involved in the operations, NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) reaffirmed the agency’s determination to dismantle drug trafficking networks nationwide.
“We will continue to target drug traffickers regardless of their age, gender, or methods used to conceal illicit substances,” Marwa said.
