Accord Party governorship candidate in the Osun State governorship election, Ademola Adeleke, has said he was among those who introduced the idea of state policing in the Senate, expressing confidence that the system would work if implemented in the state.
Adeleke made the statement on Tuesday during the Arise Townhall Meeting, where he also promised to uphold the rule of law and ensure security agencies operate within the law.
The former senator said he would support the establishment of state police in Osun, insisting that it could improve security across the state.
“I believe state police will work in my state. I am not among those that say state police cannot work. It will work,” Adeleke said.
He also stressed that nobody would be above the law under his administration, regardless of their relationship with him.
“If you are my son and you break the law, you will go and face the law. I believe in the rule of law,” he said.
Adeleke Speaks On Infrastructure
On infrastructure, the Accord candidate highlighted roads reconstructed by his administration, particularly projects he said had been abandoned for several decades.
“I have constructed roads abandoned for about 45 years. The roads are superb and clean. They are good roads,” he said.
Adeleke also rejected claims that he would need to buy votes to secure victory in the election.
He said his administration had provided palliatives to residents since taking office and accused his opponents of believing that voters could be influenced with money.
“I don’t need to buy votes. I have been giving my people palliatives since I came in. They believe they can give ₦20,000 and money to voters in Osun. My people are smarter,” Adeleke said.
The governor further accused his political opponents of contributing to the state’s economic challenges, alleging that they had “crippled Osun State’s economy” and were now attempting to use money to influence voters.
Adeleke expressed confidence ahead of the governorship election, insisting that he remained certain of victory.
“I will not lose this election. I am confident,” he said.
