Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has called on workers across the state to transform their support for his administration into votes as the August 15 governorship election approaches.
Speaking during a town hall meeting with state workers in Osogbo on Monday, Adeleke said expressions of support alone would not be enough, urging eligible workers to come out and vote on election day.
“Support alone is not enough. On Aug. 15, every eligible worker must convert that support into votes. Your PVC is your voice. Your vote for Imole is your power,” the governor said.
He encouraged workers to mobilise their families, neighbours and friends, while urging them not to be intimidated during the election.
“Please come out courageously, vote early, encourage your families, neighbours and friends to do the same,” he added.
Promises More Welfare for Workers
Adeleke assured workers that if re-elected, his administration would build on the achievements recorded over the past three and a half years.
He reiterated his commitment to improving workers’ welfare and pledged to immediately approve and implement the proposed new minimum wage once negotiations are concluded.
The governor noted that his administration had already implemented the ₦75,000 minimum wage, making Osun one of the few states to do so.
He also highlighted the regular payment of salaries and pensions, as well as the clearance of over ₦80 billion in inherited salary and pension liabilities.
“These achievements were not done to seek applause. They were done because it was the right thing to do,” Adeleke said.
Labour Pledges Support
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Osun State, Christopher Arapasopo, assured the governor that workers would repay his support for them by voting massively in the election.
Similarly, the state’s Head of Service, Ayanleye Aina, declared that civil servants remained firmly behind the governor.
“Workers are behind the governor, and we will not disappoint him on election day. We will vote massively for him and support him,” Aina said.
The governorship election in Osun State is scheduled to hold on August 15, with political campaigns intensifying across the state.
