Vice-President Kashim Shettima has assured Nigerians that the administration of President Bola Tinubu remains committed to reducing the hardship currently facing citizens across the country.
Shettima gave the assurance on Wednesday shortly after observing the Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the Ramat Square Eid Ground in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Speaking with journalists after the prayers, the Vice-President acknowledged the rising cost of living and economic challenges affecting many Nigerians but appealed for patience and understanding.
According to him, governments at all levels are already making efforts to ease the suffering of citizens.
“Government at all levels are poised to ameliorate the sufferings of the Nigerian people,” Shettima said.
The Vice-President also urged Nigerians to continue praying for peace and stability across the country, stressing that unity and peaceful coexistence remain important for national progress.
“Let there be peace in the land, and let us pray for peace, not only in Borno but in all the nooks and crannies of the country,” he stated.
Speaking on politics ahead of the 2027 general elections, Shettima called on politicians and citizens to conduct themselves responsibly and avoid statements capable of causing division or tension.
“As we enter the political phase, there is the need for maturity, forbearance and generosity of spirit in our political interactions,” he added.
The Vice-President stressed that national unity should always come before political differences, especially at a time when many parts of the world are facing crises and instability.
“What binds us together supersedes whatever divides us,” Shettima noted.
Meanwhile, shortly after the Eid prayers, the Deputy Governor of Borno State, Umar Kadafur, paid a Sallah visit to the Vice-President at his residence in Maiduguri.
During the visit, Kadafur commended Shettima for his continued support for the government and people of Borno State.
He also prayed for strength, wisdom, and good health for the Vice-President as he continues supporting President Tinubu’s administration.
The deputy governor further thanked God for the peaceful Eid celebration in the state and urged residents to continue praying for peace, progress, and prosperity in Nigeria.
The Vice-President’s remarks have generated reactions online as Nigerians continue discussing the country’s economic situation and expectations from the government.
