The newly appointed Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Segun Aina, has pledged to protect the integrity of the examination body while introducing reforms aimed at improving service delivery for millions of Nigerian students.
Speaking during his official handover ceremony at JAMB’s National Headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, on Friday, Aina said trust, transparency and fairness would remain the foundation of his administration.
“We shall protect the integrity of JAMB with everything the law permits. Integrity is not merely one of our values; it is the foundation upon which every other achievement rests,” he said.
According to the professor of computer engineering, technology and operational efficiency are meaningless if they are not backed by credibility and public confidence. He warned that JAMB would adopt a zero-tolerance approach to examination malpractice, admission fraud, impersonation, certificate forgery, cybercrime and every form of corruption capable of undermining the nation’s tertiary admission process.
Aina disclosed that the Board would strengthen collaboration with security agencies and other stakeholders while deploying technology, intelligence gathering and stronger institutional oversight to identify, expose and prosecute offenders.
He stressed that protecting the integrity of examinations is also about ensuring that hardworking candidates are not denied opportunities by those who attempt to manipulate the system through dishonest means.
“Every admission obtained through dishonest means deprives a qualified candidate of a legitimate opportunity,” Aina stated.
Beyond tackling examination malpractice, the new registrar promised to make JAMB more efficient and user-friendly. He said procedures would be simplified, communication channels improved and technology deployed to reduce the stress often associated with UTME registration, admissions and other Board services.
According to him, his vision is to build a transparent, accessible and citizen-focused institution where candidates, parents and educational institutions receive timely information and professional support whenever they engage with JAMB.
Aina also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for entrusting him with the leadership of the agency and pledged to justify the confidence through dedicated service. He equally acknowledged the support of Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, while paying tribute to former JAMB registrars, particularly his predecessor, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, for the reforms that strengthened public confidence in the Board.
Reflecting on his appointment, Aina described it as a “full-circle moment,” recalling that he once served at JAMB as a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member nearly two decades ago. He vowed to build on the Board’s achievements while preparing it for the evolving demands of Nigeria’s education sector.
