Fresh attacks by suspected gunmen have left one person dead and three others injured, including a pastor, in separate incidents in Plateau State, raising fresh concerns over the worsening security situation in the state.
The first attack occurred on Thursday night in Ncha community, Miango District of Bassa Local Government Area, where a middle-aged man identified simply as Mr. Bulus was reportedly ambushed and killed.
Confirming the incident, the National Secretary of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA), Danjuma Dickson Auta, condemned the attack and described it as another unprovoked assault on peaceful residents.
According to him, the attackers killed the victim before dumping his body in a shallow stream.
He called on security agencies to intensify efforts to arrest those responsible and ensure they face justice.
A resident of the community, Mr. Ewo Haruna, described the incident as heartbreaking, saying residents woke up to the shocking news of the killing.
In a separate incident on the same night, suspected gunmen invaded Fubok village in Daffo District of Bokkos Local Government Area, where a pastor and two members of his church sustained gunshot injuries.
The injured cleric, identified as Pastor Philibus, and the two other victims are currently receiving medical treatment.
Residents alleged that the attackers had earlier stormed a nearby community where three people were reportedly killed before launching the attack on Fubok village.
The latest attacks have sparked renewed fear among residents of Bassa and Bokkos Local Government Areas, with many lamenting the recurring violence that has forced families from their homes and left communities living in constant fear.
As of the time of filing this report, the Plateau State Police Command had not officially commented on the incidents, as efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, were unsuccessful.
