Nigerian singer Runtown has reacted to a recent court judgment that upheld his recording agreement with Eric Many Limited, insisting that he will not hand over access to his music catalogue despite the ruling.
The singer’s response comes after the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court ruled that his 2016 recording contract with the record label remains valid and had not been legally terminated.
The court also ordered Runtown to fulfil the terms of the agreement and pay over ₦319 million in damages, recoupment and legal costs over alleged breaches of the contract.
However, reacting in a post shared on his official X account, Runtown dismissed the situation and accused the founder of Eric Many Limited, Prince Okwudili Umenyiora (Mr. Dilly), of repeatedly misleading the public with what he described as fake court orders.
“Back outside! So not going to let any agenda run… Mr Dilly, every year you try to deceive people with fake court orders… you think after 9 years I’ll give you passwords and access to my catalogue?? Lol, nice try… Keep trying,” Runtown wrote.
The legal battle between the singer and Eric Many Limited dates back to 2016, when Runtown attempted to leave the record label.
At the time, the label accused the singer of violating the terms of his contract by accepting performance bookings, releasing music and planning international tours without its approval, leading to several legal disputes in both Nigeria and the United States.
Despite the court’s recent ruling, Runtown’s latest statement suggests the long-running dispute between both parties is far from over.
