Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has revealed that she recently underwent major surgery, assuring fans that she is recovering and will return after taking some time to rest.
The singer, whose real name is Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, shared the update on her Instagram Story on Thursday while apologising for her reduced online presence.
She explained that although she had expected a quick recovery, the procedure turned out to be more complicated than anticipated.
“I had major surgery a few days ago. I was hoping it would be a quick recovery, but it was more complicated than they expected,” she wrote.

Despite the health scare, the ‘Rush’ hitmaker reassured her fans that she is recovering well and hopes to return soon.
“I just need a bit of rest, and I’ll be back!!!” she added.
Ayra Starr also encouraged her supporters to continue promoting her forthcoming project, Starrgirl, urging fans to spread the word and pre-order the release.
In a separate Instagram update, the singer announced that she had begun signing copies of her first vinyl and CD inserts, encouraging fans to purchase the special editions through her official online store.
The health update comes just days after fans got their first look at Ayra Starr’s acting debut in the trailer for the Hollywood fantasy film Children of Blood and Bone.
The movie features an all-star cast including Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Cynthia Erivo, Richard Mofe-Damijo and Damson Idris.
Although Ayra Starr did not disclose the nature of the surgery, fans and colleagues have continued to send messages of support and wish her a speedy recovery.
