President Bola Tinubu has expressed confidence that Nigeria’s economy is recovering while security operations across the country are producing better results through improved coordination among security and intelligence agencies.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this on Tuesday after leading the National Communications Team to a meeting with the President in Abuja.
The delegation included members of the Presidential Media Team and heads of key government information agencies, including the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Voice of Nigeria (VON) and the National Orientation Agency (NOA).
According to Idris, the meeting reviewed public perception of government policies and provided an opportunity for President Tinubu to offer guidance on the administration’s communication strategy.
“We thought it was important to continuously talk to Mr President, to hear from him, and to tell him what we are doing,” Idris said.
He explained that the engagement also enabled the communication team to relay Nigerians’ feedback on government policies while improving communication between the government and the public.
Idris said President Tinubu believes his administration’s economic reforms are beginning to yield positive results.
“The president has told us several times the economy is turning the corner. We now know that the economy has turned the corner,” he stated.
On security, Idris said the President acknowledged that challenges still exist but expressed confidence that ongoing operations were making meaningful progress.
“Government is strategising and working with the security agencies. You can see the better coordination this time around,” he said.
The minister attributed the improved collaboration among security and intelligence agencies to Tinubu’s leadership and commitment to restoring peace across the country.
He added that the President emphasised the importance of sustained engagement with Nigerians to ensure government policies are properly understood while public feedback continues to shape decision-making.
Speaking on media relations, Idris said Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to press freedom but urged journalists to uphold professionalism and responsibility in their reporting.
“The media will continue to have freedom to do their work. But freedom also has to come with responsibility,” Idris said.
The minister also revealed that the President called for stronger collaboration with the media to tackle fake news, misinformation and disinformation, especially with the growing influence of artificial intelligence.
