The Nigerian Army has recorded another success in its fight against kidnapping after troops killed four suspected kidnappers, rescued three abducted victims and arrested eight suspects during coordinated security operations across Kwara, Kogi and Plateau states.
According to an operational report released on Friday, troops under Operation Savannah Shield carried out an ambush at a crossing point near Jonloji village in the riverine area of Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
During the operation, the soldiers neutralised four suspected kidnappers, rescued one kidnapped victim and recovered a pump-action gun, four motorcycles and ₦64,000 believed to be linked to the criminal group.
The rescued victim was immediately taken to the General Hospital in Kaiama for medical treatment.
In a separate operation in Kogi State, troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base, Egbe, rescued two people who had been abducted on July 21 at Ruga Mascaru in Yagba West Local Government Area.
The report stated that the kidnappers abandoned their victims and fled after spotting the approaching troops. The victims were later reunited with their families.
The military also recorded successes in Plateau State, where troops arrested three suspects accused of attempting to rape a 12-year-old girl in Bokkos Local Government Area.
The suspects have since been handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.
In another incident, soldiers intervened in a dispute between a farmer and a herder over the alleged destruction of farmland. The farmer was arrested, while the injured herder was evacuated for medical treatment.
The report further disclosed that troops foiled an attempted armed robbery along the Hawan Kibo–Rafin Sanyi Road in Riyom Local Government Area after engaging the suspects, who escaped from the scene.
The Nigerian Army added that troops deployed under Operations Fansan Yamma, Hadin Kai and AA II also continued offensive operations and routine patrols across their areas of responsibility without recording any major security incidents.
The latest operations form part of ongoing efforts by the military to combat kidnapping, armed robbery and other criminal activities across the country.
