Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has revealed that the five South-East governors have agreed to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, citing what he described as the administration’s developmental projects across the region.
Speaking in Owerri during a meeting with traditional rulers and members of the Imo State Elders Council, Uzodimma said the decision was based on the Federal Government’s performance rather than political affiliations.
According to the governor, although the South-East governors belong to different political parties, they have collectively assessed the impact of Tinubu’s administration and resolved to strengthen their collaboration with the President.
He added that the governors are planning a joint courtesy visit to President Tinubu to further deepen cooperation between the South-East and the Federal Government.
Uzodimma urged politicians to avoid spreading what he described as misleading narratives through Igbo political platforms, insisting that people in the region value visible development over political rhetoric.
Among the achievements he credited to the Tinubu administration are the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), the rehabilitation and commercial operation of the Port Harcourt–Aba rail line, the approval of the $3 billion Eastern Rail Corridor project, and several major road construction projects across the region.
He also highlighted increased allocations to states, the student loan programme, security initiatives and fiscal reforms as policies that have benefited the South-East.
Speaking on Imo State’s political future, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to implementing the state’s Charter of Equity, a law designed to ensure fairness in the rotation of political power.
Uzodimma said his successor should emerge in line with the charter and possess the character, integrity and competence required to sustain the achievements of his administration.
He warned that he would strongly resist any attempt to undermine the Charter of Equity for political interests.
The governor also encouraged greater investment in skills acquisition and vocational education, describing them as essential tools for reducing unemployment, tackling insecurity and driving sustainable economic growth.
