Presidential spokesman Daniel Bwala says his previous criticisms of President Bola Tinubu should no longer dominate public discussions, describing them as “baseless” in light of current realities while insisting they were never lies.
Bwala made the remarks on Wednesday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he responded to questions about statements he made against Tinubu before joining the current administration.
The presidential aide questioned why the issue continued to be raised instead of focusing on matters affecting Nigerians.
“The first person that started asking me this question was you, and you have done that more than five times. Are you not tired? They are completely inconsequential to what is happening,” Bwala said.
He argued that the discussion should have centred on issues such as the economy, education, security and recent developments involving Nigeria’s relationship with the United States.
According to him, the Tinubu administration has made significant progress, particularly in improving collaboration among Nigeria’s security agencies.
“We have made substantial progress. It is the first time in Nigeria’s history that the leadership of President Bola Tinubu has brought about very strong collaboration,” he stated.
When asked whether calling his past comments “baseless” meant they were false, Bwala insisted there was a clear difference.
“They are not lies. They are baseless. Not important for conversation,” he said.
Bwala also accused the programme’s anchor, Seun Okinbaloye, of focusing more on opposition narratives while ignoring similar political developments involving opposition figures.
He cited Labour Party’s Peter Obi, noting that the former presidential candidate had changed political parties several times without attracting the same level of scrutiny.
The presidential spokesman maintained that debates about his previous remarks have become irrelevant and urged greater attention to government policies and issues directly affecting Nigerians.
