Shock and outrage have spread across Imo State after one of the suspected killers of a nursing student, Wendy Achumba, reportedly confessed to the horrifying crime.
Wendy, a student of the College of Nursing, Obowo, was allegedly attacked and murdered inside her apartment in Umuadara, Umulogho community in Obowo Local Government Area.
According to community sources, local youths led by youth leader Chidiebere Iweajunwa tracked down and arrested one of the suspects after carrying out investigations into the incident.
The suspect, identified as Onyema Okonkwo, allegedly confessed in a viral video that he and another man named Emmanuel invaded the student’s residence around 7 p.m.
He claimed they attacked Wendy after she rejected their sexual advances.
According to his confession, the suspects allegedly raped the student before the attack turned deadly.
“She refused us, so we went to her house,” the suspect reportedly said in the video confession.
Sources disclosed that Wendy was alone in the apartment at the time because her roommates had travelled for their nursing programme experience.
The suspect further claimed he assaulted the student with a stick, while his alleged accomplice later returned with a knife.
The disturbing incident has triggered anger and sadness online, with many Nigerians demanding justice for the young nursing student.
Residents reportedly handed the suspect over to the police for further investigation.
As of the time of filing this report, the Imo State Police Command had not officially released a statement on the case.
