The Nasarawa State Police Command has successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt along the Akwanga-Jos Road, rescuing four abducted victims without injuries.
The incident occurred on Monday night near Megona Filling Station in Andaha, Akwanga Local Government Area, after police received a distress call reporting the activities of suspected kidnappers.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, officers attached to the Andaha Division responded immediately to the emergency.
“On sighting the police, the armed hoodlums opened fire on the operatives, leading to a gun duel,” Nansel said.
He explained that the police overpowered the suspects with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their victims and flee into the nearby bush with suspected gunshot wounds.
The police also recovered food items and other provisions believed to have been stolen from a nearby provision store during the operation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, praised the officers for their swift response and bravery, describing the successful rescue as a demonstration of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
He ordered an intensive manhunt for the fleeing suspects, directing the deployment of operational and intelligence teams to ensure they are arrested and brought to justice.
The police said the ongoing search is being carried out in collaboration with the military, local vigilante groups, and hunters, with bush-combing operations continuing across the area.
The command also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies to support efforts to tackle crime in the state.
