Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (Rtd) has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the N1.245 trillion Gombe-Biu Highway dualisation project, describing it as a major boost for infrastructure, economic growth and regional connectivity in the North-East.
Buratai said the revival of the strategic highway, first constructed in 1962, reflects the administration’s commitment to development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to him, the 139-kilometre dual carriageway will improve transportation, ease movement of goods and services, strengthen trade links, and create new economic opportunities for communities along the corridor.
He also praised Works Minister David Umahi, alongside the governors of Gombe and Borno states, for their roles in advancing the project.
Buratai noted that beyond its economic benefits, the highway would enhance logistics, mobility and broader security operations across the North-East.
Describing the project as a landmark investment, he urged residents and stakeholders to support its successful implementation, expressing confidence that it would deliver lasting benefits to the region.
“The project will improve connectivity, stimulate economic growth and contribute to stability across the North-East,” Buratai said.
