Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 65 Battalion have intercepted a truck allegedly transporting a large quantity of illicit drugs along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, dealing another blow to drug trafficking operations in the country.
The successful operation, carried out on July 9, 2026, followed credible intelligence received by the military, leading to the interception of the vehicle and the arrest of its driver.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, said preliminary investigations showed the illegal consignment was being transported to the Berger area of Lagos State.
According to him, the driver failed to provide credible information about the owner of the drugs or the intended recipient.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the illicit consignment was being transported to the Berger area of Lagos State. However, the suspect could not provide satisfactory information regarding the ownership or intended recipient of the drugs,” Yahaya said.
He disclosed that the suspect and the recovered drugs have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Lagos State Command, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The handover was carried out by the Commanding Officer of the 65 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo.
Reacting to the operation, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Adebayo Babalola, praised the troops for their professionalism, vigilance and swift response.
He also urged military personnel to sustain the ongoing crackdown on drug traffickers and other criminal elements operating within the division’s jurisdiction.
The latest interception highlights the continued collaboration between security agencies in tackling drug trafficking and other crimes across the country.
