Nollywood actress Blessing Obasi has shared the emotional experience of facing harsh online criticism after marrying fellow actor Stan Nze, revealing how social media trolls attacked her appearance and mocked her marriage.
Speaking in a recent interview, the actress recalled that the trolling became intense during their first wedding anniversary, when critics focused on her teeth and body-shamed her over her smile.
“I was dragged on my first wedding anniversary because of my teeth. Trolls told me to stop laughing publicly because of my dentition,” Blessing revealed.
She also disclosed that when Stan Nze first introduced her on social media, many people doubted their relationship, claiming she looked much older than him and insisting their romance was only for a movie.
“When my husband posted my picture for the first time, people said I was 10 years older than him. They also said it was a movie because they didn’t believe he would actually marry me,” she said.
According to Blessing, the online attacks didn’t stop with her. She said her husband also became a target after comments he made during an interview were allegedly taken out of context and misrepresented on social media.
Despite the criticism, the actress said she refused to let online opinions define her marriage, choosing instead to focus on building a happy home with her husband.
Blessing has previously spoken about marrying later in life, saying it was a personal decision and encouraging women not to allow society pressure them into marriage. She also admitted that she once believed men in the entertainment industry were unfaithful but said Stan Nze changed her perspective.
The couple got married in 2021 and welcomed their first child, a baby boy, in 2023. They have continued to publicly celebrate their marriage despite facing repeated criticism online.
