Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy is set to make history as one of the headline performers at the first-ever halftime show during a FIFA World Cup final.
FIFA announced that the groundbreaking 11-minute halftime performance will take place during the 2026 FIFA World Cup final on July 19 at the New York New Jersey Stadium.
Burna Boy will share the global stage with music icons Justin Bieber, Madonna, Shakira, BTS, renowned Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel, and the PS22 Chorus alongside British rock band Coldplay.
The performance will be the first Super Bowl-style halftime show in FIFA World Cup history and is being curated by Chris Martin, lead singer of Coldplay, in support of the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the event aims to promote education and create more football opportunities for children worldwide.
“Burna Boy, Gustavo Dudamel and PS22 Chorus featuring Coldplay will also join and play a key role in conveying a powerful message of unity and hope to billions of people worldwide,” Infantino said.
He added that the show will celebrate football, music and shared global values, creating a legacy that extends beyond the final match.
Burna Boy’s selection continues the growing global recognition of Nigerian music. Alongside Rema and Davido, the Grammy-winning singer has already performed at major events during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, further showcasing Afrobeats on one of the world’s biggest stages.
